Expelled from his prep school in Pennsylvania Holden Caulfield makes his way to New York. In a down-to-earth manner the teenage Holden describes his experiences in a search for purpose in the "phoniness" of the adult world.
I've read this book twice and both times it ceases to amaze me. Its one of the most provocative and profound books I've ever encountered. Holden is a very inspirational character. As he transitions into adulthood, you can see the growth that he undergoes throughout his experiences. This book reveals the "phoniness" of the adult world and the value of childhood innocence. I would definitely recommend this book to the more advanced reader looking for an insightful book about the adult world.
The Catcher In the Rye was written in 1951, but surprisingly I found that it can still be related to by the typical teenager in today’s society. Not only that, it is a very fascinating read too. Holden Caufield is a very interesting character. And I would say I enjoyed going through the journey with him. Some parts of the book are really funny as well. So…if you have not had a chance to read it, give it a try.

Catcher in the rye is an intriguing book. It's so odd that it makes you want to read more just to see how weird it gets. The whole novel spans a period of 3 days, which is quite amazing. It's about a boy named Holden Caulfield who starts out as a delinquent blowing through schools like they were used tissues, but then learns what's really important in life. (That is, afer staying up all night getting into trouble.) There's an annoying amount of swearing though. There are funny parts too.
