An unconventional new girl at Mica Area High School challenges the social structure of the school by asserting through her actions that every individual is unique and important. A love story about nonconformity and porcupine neckties.
This book will have your heart broken when you finish it. It's a hardcore weeper, in my opinion. A good love story and how boys like me react when they meet the perfect girl for them. It's very unique in its own way with all the characters and settings they have in the novel. There is also a second book following this one. A short series. Best for teens. Have fun reading!
I've read this and loved it. The ending was pretty sad, but the book kept me going. I didn't cry, I didn't want to, but it's definately a good book. If you want a light and calm read, this book is definately for you. =)
Stargirl is a light and unique book. It gave me a feeling of peace when I read it, but it also made me feel a little sad. The writing style is simple but elegant, and the main character Stargirl is such a wonderful girl. She is different, but in a way that makes me admire and sympathise with her. The subtle love between her and Leo is very romantic but also troubled, because Stargirl is an outsider. She is such an innocent and pure-hearted girl that she can't fit in. I felt really bad for her. All in all, this is a great book, a must-read for teens, because it really makes us think about identity and individuality.
Once again, randomly pulling books off the YA shelves pays off. That's how I came to read Stargirl.
It's partly sad, a little funny, and deals with what EVERY teen struggles with: How to fit in. Come on, teens pay hundreds and thousands of dollars on the right clothes, and a lot of time thinking about how to get with the 'in' crowd. Not Stargirl. She's lost in her own world. And soon the school gets swept up with her, and go just as crazy. People break out of their shells. Until Stargirl crosses the line.
Stargirl was one of those books that make you think, without explicitly asking you too. The writing was ok; not my style but I know a lot of people like that kind. Sometimes I found it lacked action, just waved around listlessly, but that was ok. While it was going nowhere, it told of Leo's and Stargirls adventures, and they were very interesting.
My favourite part was where Stargirl and Leo follow people around, just watching them go about their day for 15 minutes. Because really, that's what Life is about. Enjoying the everyday things.
One thing I didn't like was how the book painted Stargirl as perfect. She could pull speeches off the top of her head, she didn't care at all what anybody thought. and I think to a certain level, everyone does care and wants to be excepted.
9/10
When I finished reading this book, I wanted to be just like Stargirl-not afraid to be herself, and be different. The ending almost made me cry, and I was mentally screaming at the guy (sorry, I can't remember his name!) for trying to make Stargirl be like every other boring girl at his school. A really great book I think anyone would like! Can't wait to read the next one.
Stargirl is very unique. This book is a love story and it is just adorable. Overall this was an amazing book. I hope that the second book is just as good. I have never read something so different. You wouldnt expect it to be a love story. Good job Jerry Spinelli !
This book has a lot to do with popularity and the challenge that so many kids and teens face in having to choose whether to be, act, look, dress and think a certain way just to fit in, or to just be themselves. It’s a hard choice – an impossible choice at times. If you’ve ever felt torn about something like this yourself, Stargirl is a must-read.
This is a good book for anyone who is looking for a book with a lot of feeling in it. I like how it starts, and i like how it starts her out as a outcast new kid, then a semi-popular girl, and then back to the out cast, but everything changes when she meets Leo for the better and worse. This is an all out great book.
When a strange, and interesting girl named Stargirl comes to the high school of Mica, she isn't easily fogotten. Infact, she isn't easily liked either. Exept for her two good friends Leo and Dori, and her pet rat, Cinnamon, she is practicly alone. This book has inspired me, not to mention that Stargirl is now my biggest idol. If i could summerize this book into three words: Praise for Stargirl.
I think that this book is really different from most books. Usually books about high school are about really popular people and all the drama and what - not that they have in their lives. However this book shows about the life of a girl thats very unique and doesnt care about what other people think. I think that this was a pretty good book because there were many instances where I felt like i could relate to how stargirl was feeling. However I also thought that some of the things that she does is very eccentric but overall I must say this is a pretty good book. Also its an easy book to read and the story has some humor and other parts to it that makes it as good as it is.
Alot of people say that this book is awesome, but I would have to disagree. Even though its very unique i didn`t really find it that interesting-I got bored easily when reading it. And some parts of it didn`t make much sense to me. But, I would recommend this book to kids of all ages because lots of people like this book so other people probably will too, even though I didn`t.
This Book is probably one of the sweetest boy-meets-girl books I have ever read. It's actually pretty sad when you think about Star girl herself. The way the other kids treat her is enough for any reader to feel uncomfortable. I liked how this book was form a boy's point of view, instead to the usual girl's. It gives the book a nice twist. I think one thing that made this book very appealing was, it was a love story, without excessive amounts of love. : )
I fell in love with Stargirl (the book and the character), she was so open minded and kind, she was a very unique person. She really cared about everyone she met, she even cared about people she hadn't met. She did the nicest things to strangers. She did many unexpected things, many unpopular things, but in the end that was what made her a legend in Mica Area High School history
She changed Mica Area High School forever, in my opinion I think we all need to be a little bit like Stargirl and be more understanding and treat everyone kindly.
Stargirl showed an open mind, and an open heart. I think that's something we should all have.
Awesome book, loved reading it!

This is a really unique book. I have never read a story about it. It shows that just because someone seems strange or unusual, it does not mean that they aren't a good person. I loved how someone was able to fall in love with her because of her uniqueness. Although this book wasn't exactly an action-packed adventure, I really enjoyed it. I liked how the story was told in the perspective of an observer because it made her seem more mysterious. I recommend this book to anyone that feels out of place because it shows that anyone can be accepted as long as you are still yourself.
This book creates an environment to the reader that is as enchanting, as wild, and as inviting as the character, Stargirl. Each character in Jerry Spinelli's book reaches out to the audience and is fully developed, allowing the audience to feel for the character. Reading this book will crumble the defensive walls of the regular society, and enable all readers to realize difference is not an enemy, but instead, a spark of inspiration for others to emerge into unique individuals. Spinelli winds a magical yet down-to earth-tale of a teenage romance that will be impossible to acheive if one adheres to their natural level of comfort. His novel, Stargirl, is profound and will leave you yearning for the next book in the mini-series, Love Stargirl.
Wow, an amazing and seemingly magical tale. A MUST read: Jerry Spinelli truly outdoes himself in Stargirl. A shorter story, but is written with language that is not intense and still manages to capture the reader. A compelling, enthralling and heartbreaking tale: I can't wait to get my hands on Love, Stargirl.
A fantastic find.
I completely fell in love with this story! It's so true, and inspirational; finished in 24 hours.
A story in which illustrates a sterotypical way society accepts and or, rejects people different from us. A moral is to be learned from this story, and a tear is to be shed for Stargirl, who tried her best to fit in, only to show us, being yourself is what matters most.
Which gives the question "Would you rather be hated for who you are; or loved for someone your not? "
a whole new meaning
