Mia has spent years hiding a secret that made her feel like a freak. She has never forgotten grade three when she was called to the board to do a multiplication problem. She stalled for time by using coloured chalk to change each number into its correct colour, and that was when she discovered that no one else saw colour in numbers, letters, or sounds. She pretended it was a joke, and never mentioned it again she is failing high school math. Suddenly, she discovers that other people see colours, too, including a boy her age who seems very interested in her. Learning about her gift becomes so important to Mia that she doesn’t even notice that Mango, her beloved kitten with the orange-coloured meow, is not well.
I recommend this book to everyone looking for something to read. My friends and I read this book in our book club. One minute, everyone would be laughing and crying the next and fuming the next! This book will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time you are reading it!! Five stars!!
This book is great! Its so well writen that you feel every emotion the characters are feelling. It talks about what its like to be in middle school, the love of the people/pets around you, what its like to lose it, and being your own kind of special. Over all, I realy enjoyed this book.
A Mango-Shaped Space was weird... but good. It was boring at first... With her condition, I was just inching for it to go on... Like, please, tell me what she's going to do about that. Tell me, Mia! x) Just like people asking her the colour of their names. As the book progressed, it got juicier and more exciting, and I, like Mia, was astounded to learn that there was actually a name for her condition. The title befuddled me at first, but at the end of the book, you finally just... understand. I didn't like how some characters turned out (eg. Adam), and the author could've developed on some characters more (eg. Roger), but the story was pretty well-written and fun to read. And I like the abnormalities of Mia's family, it makes the book more interesting.
i loved this book i have read it almost twenty times. it is a truly well written book i dont know how to describe what i think of this book so you should barrow it from your local library branch. i have recemmended it to my fammily and friends
Wendy Mass did a great job of describing the life of someone who has this virtually unknown phenomenom that enables them to see the world in a different way. I thought that this book was a wake up call to the unknown. I felt what Mia did and I cried when she did. This book was wonderfully descriptive and as I read it I felt like I was Mia. I would reccommend this book for someone who would like something different from the usual chick-lit or fantasy.
I first started reading this book through a school book club and wasn't really interested in it. Soon I found that Wendy Mass's engaging style of writing had me absolutely hooked. The characters came to life and worm their way into your heart, making this book a very emotional read. I loved this book and strongly recommmed it to readers of all ages!
This book does have an amazing first half. it gives you many insights to what society would call a "freak". The remander of the book was sooooooo sad. All in all, this book was very good and i would recomend it if you don't mind crying. 4/5 stars!
Wonderfully written and introduced a new concept to me. The presentation of the plot was flawless, with just enough by-lines to tie everything together perfectly. This actually made me jealous of people with synaesthesia - it's like an acid trip without the bad stuff. I would kill to be able to see music like that.
Anyway, a great book, and then you can brag to your friends that you know about a cool new topic.
I found that this novel started off a bit slow. At first, I was deciding whether or not to continue or to stop reading it. However, I'm glad to say that as the story progressed, I started to feel compelled and engrossed. I myself, would love to see colours. It wouldn't really be a burden, but a gift. Most people have probably felt like Mia at sometime - Embarrassed, alone, ignored. This book taught me that we learn to overcome problems differently and that for some, it takes more time. I hope that everyone will be able to read this book. This way, we learn about a topic that many of us haven't even heard of! I give this book a four out of five!
this was a brilliant after reading this and leap day i was forced to take out all of wendy mass's work for the library and i am LOVING IT. this is good for everyone and anyone. i read this and was instantly hooked. one thing i noticed was that the thing that was really interesting was that without having it spelled out to you a mango shaped space had not an ounce of fantasy and it could all acctually happen this relization made the book even more awesome. This is a mix of everything you could want ina book. READ IT NOW
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and would never have discovered it if not for Teenrc so thank-you thank-you thank-you!
This tale is not something that a person commonly reads about, and therefore I found it fascinating. It was different from other books, which kept it unique and interesting. I found myself wanting to learn more as the story progressed. Even though this story was written for a younger audience, I found myself captivated and enthralled throughout the tale. Truly a remarkable novel, I give A Mango-Shaped Space a strong 5 out of 5!
I really enjoyed reading this book. I found it was like a window to something I had never heard of, let alone imagine. The whole book I was kind of wondering if synethisis is a real thing or not, and I was surpised to discover that in fact it is a real thing. I think that it would be cool to see colors in words and numbers! I was a bit surpised when Mia did some things that she did. Her character just didn't seem like the type to do some of the things that she does. Also I found that I would have liked to have some more info about Roger and Adam. Overall though it was an okay book to read. I think I would give it a 3.5 / 5
