One cruel night, Meggie's father reads aloud from Inkheart, and an evil ruler named Capricorn escapes the boundaries of fiction and lands in their living room. Suddenly, Meggie is smack in the middle of the kind of adventure she has only read about in books. Somehow, Meggie must learn to harness the magic that has conjured this nightmare. Only she can change the course of the story that has changed her life forever.
I believe Inkheart is a good book. Inkheart has has been a very good book. It has described the characters and the action in Inkhear very good. The best part in the book was when Meggie and her father go to meggie's aunt house to stay to hide from Capricorn. They describe her house as spooky and dark and has a lot of books. she has probably over 1000 books or lots of books as they describe it in the book. The books doesn't quite get resolved so it turns into a series with the Next book called Inkspell and the book after that Inkdeath. If you want to resolve the series I sugges you read all the books in the series. There is also a movie about Inkheart that I think you should see if you really liked Inkheart.
I, personally, would love to have the power to read people out of books. That way, I could lock myself in a room with people I dislike and hope that one or more of them gets sucked away while my favorite characters from a book appear. Just kidding. ^^
Why is this book so appealing? It's a book about books. The main character isn't the only hero-there are so many others who really contribute to the story. But yet, the appeal of the idea of reading characters out of books is overbearing.
The evil that is Capricorn, the firedancer that is Dustfinger, the power that is Mo, and the hero that is Meggie...It beckons. And while you might think that the first book is the real adventure, the whole trilogy is in fact as incredible as the last book, and as awesome as the next.
I don't think that a person can adequately say how good this book is! I just happened to pick it up about 4 years ago, and from the first chapter on, I was hooked! But if you start reading the first in this series, you have to read all three! Cornelia Funke writes so eloquently that you feel like you are standing right in the scene. If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I absolutely would!
I believe the book is based on an interesting plot: A man with the ability to read things into and out of books acidentally releases the 'bad guys'. However, instead of keeping the plot structure simple and adding depth to the characters the author throws in numerous details, descriptions and side characters which take away from the overall story. Many people love this book, myself not so much. I would recommend it to be read in a short time period so that you can keep track of all the different characters.
I picked up Inkheart from a thrift store out of curiosity- and now I'm certainly glad I did. The book kept me wanting more and as I continued to read I was glad it was so thick.
Now, there's the saying "Don't judge a boook by it's cover", but really, the cover is important because despite the saying, people do. Even the very title, Inkheart, draws you to the book; it's mysterious and sounds special somehow, unlike any other title you've heard of. The cover art draws you to look at it and the synopsis on the back further piques your intrest.
A problem that often times in books comes across is the usage of (more or less) stock characters. Inkheart's cast however was immaginative and fun; the characters are well rounded and through their many differences they serve to enhance the different qualities in each other.
I just loved the whole concept of characters being read out of a book. And the way that the the author speaks of books, and how it would be very different if you were the one actually having the adventure- it was so... relatable, I could say. Throughout all the craziness going on Funke kept it realistic, which kept it intense.
I would definately recomend this book to those who're looking for a good read.
I loved this book when I was 8, and I re-read it at age 13 (now) and I still couldn't put it down. It is a wonderful book, for any age. I'm sure I'll still love it when I'm 18! The characters are loving, mysterious, smart, witty and each one of them is important to the story. The plot is interesting, and even though it is a fantasy book, the non-fantasy parts are reasonably realistic. So, it is not a bunch of gibberish. It's an even mix! This is definatley one of my favourites. It should be considered a classic!
Inkheart was a pretty out-there fantasy book that I thought was very creative. At first, the strange names threw me off because normally I dislike them, but after a couple of chapters I got used to it. In fact, the story was so addicting that I ended up borrowing the next two books in the series! Inkheart had a complex plot combining love, magic, and adventure. Some of the characters were predictable, but how Meggie would turn out always seemed a mystery. I loved this series, and I definitely reccommend it to all readers! You have to read all the books to get the full satisfaction. 9/10!!
First I'll have to say this has to be one of my favorite books ever. I actully found out about this book from the movies, I saw the trailer for it and I was like "That looks like an awesome book/movie!" So when I got home that night I went to my library's webpage and put a hold on it. When I finally got to read it I couldn't put the book down, I loved the way the story was written and of course how Mo is able to read people out of books ( I mean come on! I would LOVE that!). So to finish this review off I'm giving this book a 5/5!
I was a little late hopping on the Inkheart bandwagon, but I was so glad I made the jump when I did. Inkheart is a fast-paced novel with intriguing characters and a unique storyline. I would rank this story as one of Cornelia Funke's best works. (Right up there with The Thief Lord!) I loved the chaotic magic in this book, having a power like Maggie's father would just make me want to read more books! If you get the chance would definitely recommend giving this book a try!!!
Inkheart is awesome book! I couldn't stop reading it. Even thought it is kind of hard to keep track of who is who, it is definately one of my favourite books!
i Loved this book, it had a good plot..developed characters and yet this book let my imagination run wild picturing all the things.
i was a little annoyed when it was "oh we have to get out!"
then within pages they were back and then out again...
but it was still twisted with an unprictable happily ever after ending. (of so untill i read inkspell)
The Inkheart trilogy has been one of my favourites, ever since I read the first book way back in grade six. I absolutely love fantasy and adventure, and this book is perfect for just that.
I tend to wonder, when reading the book, how Cornelia Funke came up with the idea for this story. I guess that's one of the things I really like about it. It has a uniqueness about it that a lot of other books don't have.
It nice to read about an average book lover like ourselves, instead of a fantastic hero with gleaming golden hair, and shimmering teeth. I also enjoyed how one of the villains had such an obvious weakness: Basta's superstition and fear of fire is great comic relief in a seemingly hopeless situation. It really adds depth to a character who could have been so easily made steriotypical.
If you are a great fantasy lover, like me, this is a definite book for you to try. But just be aware: this book is to be devoured. Do not try to savour every word, for you will not get anywhere if you do.
the base idea was really intriguing, with characters from books coming out, and the events were well planned out, but it could be a little confusing although i enjoyed the books a lot, so i guess i'd recommend it to maybe grade 4 or 5?
When I read Inkheart I got so caught up in the story. I was never able to put it down until I actually finished it. I think anyone and or everyone should read this book.....but on top of that you must also enjoy it. Many of my friends believe that this is one hard hitting story!
I found this book really fun and enjoyable. I am really picky with what I read, and this is one book that kept my attention the whole time!
